The exterior of the jar is elaborately enamelled with floral sprays including peony, prunus and chrysanthemum, below a ruyi-head border to the shoulder containing smaller stylised flowers. The top of the cover is similarly decorated with stylised flowers, surmounted by a finial shaped as a floral bud.
