Lot Essay

Longquan celadon figures similar to the present lot are usually smaller in size, hence the present lot is a rare example of its type. Compare this lot to a Longquan celadon figure from the collection of Charles Russell, sold at Sotheby's London, 12 July 1960, lot 123; then again in 14 May 2008, lot 332. This example is illustrated in Chinese Ceramics in the Carl Kempe Collection, Stockholm, 1964, pl. 166; The World's Great Collections. Oriental Ceramics, vol. 8, Tokyo, 1982, pl. 190; and Chinese Ceramics in the Carl Kempe Collection, Ulricehamn, 2002, pl. 385.
