Adrien Faizelot Delorme, maitre in 1748
This table, with its distinctive use of contrasting bands of maple and plum, is related to an example stamped Delorme illustrated in A. Pradère, Les Ebénistes Français de Louis XIV à la Révolution, Paris, 1989, p. 181, fig. 165 (sold Sotheby's, London, 11 July 1980, lot 157).
Established in the rue du Temple, Delorme was well known for his skilful use of marquetry, contemporary Almanachs describing him 'l'un des plus renommés pour les ouvrages de marqueterie'.
Other tables attributed to Delorme and utilizing the same subtle use of contrasting bands of marquetry were sold from the Wildenstein Collection, Christie's, London, 15 December 2005, lots 317 and 334.
