Title printed within a woodcut border with allegorical figures, oval woodcut portrait of Alberti on verso of title, allegorical woodcut illustrations and diagrams in the section on art and mathematics, historiated woodcut initials, errata leaf at end. (Border on title just shaved at top, some light staining and minor worming to inner margin.) 19th-century vellum (minor worming to spine, covers slightly bowing). Provenance: Gio. Batta Zaist (ownership inscription); van Rynberk (bookplate).

FIRST EDITION IN ITALIAN. Cosimo Bartoli's Italian translation of 15 treatises by Leon Battista Alberti. Alberti covers a variety of subjects including mathematics, "Delle piacevolezze delle Matematiche,” sculpture and painting, "Delia Statua" and "Della Pittura,” cipher writing, the administration of justice, city and country life and surveying and measuring. RARE: according to American Book Prices Current, no other copy of this work has sold at auction in at least 35 years. Adams A-486.
