Emilio Boggio (1857-1920) became acquainted with Henri Martin in 1877 upon his enrolment at the Académie Julian where he studied under the tutelage of Jean-Paul Laurens. The fellow artists painted in various locations in France together and under Martin's influence as well as that of Monet and Pissarro, Boggio adopted an impressionist style which had a considerable impact on painting in his native Venezuela. He held solo exhibitions at the Galeries George Petit in Paris during his lifetime and in 1982, he was honoured posthumously by a monographic exhibition in Caracas, organised by the Venezuelan government.
