AN APULIAN RED-FIGURED LOUTROPHOROS
ATTRIBUTED TO THE PATERA PAINTER, CIRCA 340-320 B.C.
The obverse with a draped female seated on a x-frame stool, holding a xylophone, facing a draped male figure leaning against a laver holding a fan and diadem, a winged Eros holding a branch and wreath flying above, a kalathos and mirror in the field, the reverse with two draped males standing either side of a triangular stele, one holding a wreath, a ribbon and buchrania in the field above, band of meander and dotted square ground line, double palmettes under the handles, palmettes and scrolling tendrils on the shoulder, bands of tongues and zigzag above, band of laurel under the rim, rim overhang with dotted ovolo, scrolling handles with band of dotted laurel and dotted sides, details in added white and yellow
