Part II bound before part I, collation: I: *6 a-f12 g-h8 i10 k-t8 u6 x-2b8 A-C8 D4; II: a-e8 f-g6 h-r8 s6. 266 and 138 leaves, with blank g8 in part I and blank s6 in part II. 26 lines. Type: 2:114Gk (text), 2:114R (titles, preliminary matter, colophons). Initial spaces with guide-letters. (Titles lightly soiled, small stain to outer margin of first 13 leaves, occasional spotting, outer sheet of quire g browned.) Later vellum with yapp edge, manuscript title on spine, modern slipcase (lacking ties, some stains and a small tear). Provenance: Episcopal Library of Cordoba (erased inscription on title of part II) — ink inscription dated 1707 — Livio Ambrogio (bookplate).

EDITIO PRINCEPS of the great majority of the letters. Musurus brought together 35 authors in his extensive collection, ranging from Plato, Isocrates and Aeschines to 4th-century authors such as Gregory of Nazianzus and later to Procopius of Gaza. Also included are Synesius, Aristotle, Alexander the Great, and St Basil; other letters are spurious or of doubtful authorship, such as those by Hippocrates and Euripides. The Aldine Epistolae Graecae 'was not replaced by an equally useful collection until 1873, the date of R. Hercher's Epistolographi graeci' (Wilson, Byzantium to Italy, p.150).
