Volume I only, 2 parts in one volume, 2° (490 x 335mm). Engraved title with printed overslip, the date altered in ink to MDCXXXIIII, additional leaf inserted after 'An den Leser' and 'Eine kurtze und nützliche Unterrichting' composed of an engraving of Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden and some some engraved music, compass engraving in text on **1v. 2 engraved maps in the text and 149 (of 154) double-page maps, of which maps 13, 56, 63 and 86 folding, map 22 with later amateur partial hand-colouring, maps 26 and 154 with later outline colouring. (Lacking maps 3, 4 and 5 of Asia, Africa and America as well as maps 43 of Saxony and 57 of the River Rhine, world map and map 41 torn at gutter but with only very tiny loss, map of Europa loose, Inserted leaf unevenly cropped and frayed at edges, leaf Zzz1 Sungow misbound after Aaaa2, occasional light spotting.) Contemporary leather (worn and rubbed, with head of spine and corners of covers defective, large tear to upper cover). Provenance: Johann Christoph Gesen (ink ownership inscription in margin of title dated 1639) – Johann Rudolph von Metzradt (ink ownership inscription in margin of title dated 1651) – Friedrich August II, King of Saxony (1797-1854; bookplate on verso of title) – Dresden Central Art Library (cancelled stamp on verso of title).

FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, with the date of 1634, maps 8, 9, 53, 81, 83, 128 and 154 in proof state, and having the Visscher map for map 11 and map [9600:2A] for map 144. The atlas contains 12 maps of the Americas including Bermuda, Virginia, the West Indies, Central America, Venezuela, Guiana, Brazil, Paraguay, Straits of Magellan, Chile, Peru and Mexico.
