Profusely decorated to top, front, back, sides and interior surfaces with intricate sycamore and fruitwood marquetry depicting figures and animals in landscapes, buildings, soldiers, fruit and foliage, including a Hunting scene around the upper compartment, the biblical story of Joseph to the drawer-fronts and the Greek mythological story of Actaeon to the underside of the lid, with gilt-metal corner mounts and side carrying handles, with hinged top and front, upper compartment and cupboard surrounded by drawers

From the middle of the 16th century, Augsburg became a centre for furniture production and was famous for it's fine and intricate marquetry.
The story of Actaeon - having surprised Diana bathing, he was turned into a stag and savaged by his own hounds
The story of Joseph - having been sold into slavery by his own brothers, he later correctly interpreted the Pharaoh's dreams
