AN ITALIAN SILVER INCENSE BOAT, NAVETA
MARK OF MC, NAPLES, 19TH CENTURY
The body part-fluted with conforming trumpet foot, chased with acanthus leaves, scrolls and a mask flanked by scrolls below the cover; also another naveta, apparently unmarked, probably late 17th/early 18th century, chased with scrollwork, flowers and foliage, a winged angel head at end of cover and another below prow, cut-out leaves around the rim and a scroll handle with beaded rat-tail terminating in an angel head, the oval foot chased with ovolo motifs; another naveta, apparently unmarked, 18th century, engraved A.1748, chased around the sides with acanthus leaves and having a broad, foliate scroll handle; another, indistinctly marked to cover, probably 18th century, chased with scrolls and foliage on a textured ground, the foot with three scroll-edged vacant reserves; another apparently unmarked, probably 18th century, chased with leafage and rocaille, and having a finial modelled as Christ with one arm raised (foot with wood insert); and a large silver-plated naveta with similar finial to the preceding one, chased with scrolls and foliage
