AN ITALIAN ROCOCO SILVER THURIBLE
NAPLES, 1793
With two vacant rococo reserves and a third engraved with initials NC below a coronet, chased with scrolls and flowers, the foot with a band of leafage; another Italian silver thurible, mark of Carlo Balbino, Turin, circa 1824, the body fluted above leafage and applied with three winged angel heads, the cover chased with arcading and applied with three cylindrical receptacles for the chains, the foot rim later inscribed Dono del Sig.r. G.mo Calcagno Pre 1850; and a third Italian silver thurible of rococo form, apparently unmarked, 18th century, with three scroll and shell embellished reserves, one engraved with a kneeling saint, one initialled S.G, and the third dated 1789, the body chased with rocaille, scroll and fish scale escutcheons
