Lot Essay

This early painting depicts the Scottish countryside, which surrounded the Grant ancestral home The Doune at Rothiemurchus, Inverness. Painted circa 1906, Haystooks Rothiemurchus captures the joy of Grant’s summer sojourns home, reflecting the painterly style of his recent instruction in Paris at Jacques-Emile Blanche's school, La Palette, from 1906-7.
