Lot Essay

This drawing is believed to be an informal study of Kathleen (Dorette) Nancy Woodward, dating from the early 1930s. In 1928, Brockhurst met the sixteen year-old model, Kathleen, after being appointed a Visitor to the Royal Academy Schools. The artist was immediately enamoured with Kathleen's youthful beauty and she was to become his lifelong model and second wife.
