Lot Essay

Lesrel was a genre artist greatly influenced by the French master Meissonier. He mainly painted cavaliers making merry or playing cards, sometimes involving musical themes, in silk and velvet finery. His greatest quality is his attention to detail. This is a very typical and fine example of the artist's oeuvre.
