An 18ct. gold hunting cased presentation pocket watch, 1852,
white enamel dial with Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds, gilt three quarter plate fusee movement with lever escapement and bi-metallic compensation balance, gold cuvette inscribed Presented to Captn. J.W. Hurst by Messrs Boddington & Compy, Merchants of London in token of their high esteem for his valuable services while in command of their ship. Also for his intrepid conduct (with his crew of 32 men) in saving the same in Gasper Straits 9th Decr. 1852, against fearful odds viz three hundred and fifty armed Chinese in various attempts to take the ship from him. engine turned case with milled band, case makers initials JS, London marks for 1852, diameter 46mm.
