Opaque pigments on paper, depicting a red-breasted bird perched on a branch, with additional red colouring on his head and under his tail, otherwise gray all over with white-and-black wings and tail, against a neutral background with an inscription in red at right, surrounded by gold-flecked borders

Lot Essay

The inscription reads "ruz-e se shanbeh shahr shaval ba iqbal senne 1099 ba tam" which translates to "Wednesday, month of Shawal year AH 1099 July-August 1688 AD." There are also traces of an erased attribution to an artist below.
