Arabic manuscript on 'Collar et Prangey' paper, 128ff. plus three fly-leaves, each folio with 19ll. of black maghribi script, text sometimes arranged in two or three columns, with polychrome verse markers as knotted motifs or stylized floral sprays, the name of Muhammad picked out in colour, titles in large polychrome script, text within blue and red rules, with catchwords, one diagram, opening folio with large polychrome illuminated 'carpet' page, in original gilt and stamped red morocco binding

Lot Essay

The paper on which this manuscript is copied is watermarked with an Arabic inscription which clearly gives two French names. They might transcribe as 'Collar and [wa] Prangey'?. Another 19th century Moroccan manuscript, which sold at Christie's South Kensington, 10 October 2014, lot 365 was copied on similar paper.
