Lot Essay

Julian Opie is most recognisable for his digital alterations in portraiture, as we see here in Esther, Schoolgirl from 2006. Painting using a variety of technologies and materials, he studied at Goldsmiths, University of London, under renowned conceptual artist Michael Craig-Martin. This painting's vibrant colours and scale make it readily recognisable as part of Opie's distinctive oeuvre.
