A CARVED RED LACQUER SQUARE BOX AND COVER
18TH-19TH CENTURY
The center of the cover is carved with a scene of scholars and attendants standing on a terrace, with a crane to one side and its mate in flight above, all within a foliate scroll border repeated on the indented corners of the cover and box which are further carved on the sides with panels enclosing various flowers.
6 ¾ in. (17 cm.) square

Reverend Isaac Taylor Headland (1859-1942) Collection, and thence by descent within the family.
