AN UNUSUAL DATED GILT-DECORATED BLACK-GROUND AND COPPER-RED-DECORATED CIRCULAR PLAQUE
DATED BY INSCRIPTION TO THE DINGSI YEAR OF THE JIAQING PERIOD, CORRESPONDING TO 1797
The slightly recessed, black-glazed center is painted in gilding with an imperial poem by the Qianlong Emperor describing a good harvest year, followed by a cyclical date dingsi (1797) and two seals, Jia and Qing, all within an outer border decorated in iron red with five bats (wufu) in flight amidst scrolling clouds. The plaque is within a circular frame.
