A RARE JIZHOU 'TORTOISESHELL'-GLAZED SHALLOW DISH
SOUTHERN SONG-YUAN DYNASTY, 12TH-14TH CENTURY
The dish has shallow rounded sides that flare widely from the flat, unglazed base to the everted rim, and is covered inside and out with a lustrous glaze of dark reddish-brown color decorated on the interior with splashes of golden amber color.
5½ in. (14 cm.) diam.
