Lot Essay

By the eighteenth century, carpet production in Ushak was predominantly focused on the production and export of carpets for the wealthy European market. Some of these carpets adopted the 'Smyrna' design as in the present lot, a similar example of which sold in these Rooms, 22 May 2008, lot 111.
