Made by hand building method, the unique shape of the sculpture reminds that ofwater which is free, formless, shapeless and constantly in change. It could adapt and fit into each corner of this world. Delicately covered by a creamy yellow glaze, the edges thinly glazed create lines in light color which enhance the angularity and make the piece more powerful; signed in Chinese Zhao Meng and dated jia wu zhi on the base.
51 x 50 x 23 cm (20 1/8 x 19 5/8 x 9 in.), black painted wooden stand
Porcelain and self-mixed ivory yellow glaze

Lot Essay

I admire water for its freedom which is considered as an ideal attitude when interacting with clay. Feeling of free helps me to set up a totally relaxed mind set. Especially when all skills and expertise with clay have sunk into my subconscious, I am able to loosen up and work spontaneously. My fingers mimic the way that water flows for squeezing, pinching and penetrating the soft clay. Nothing is planned to happen.
My sculptures are free of any shape and no intention is behind to be a particular form. I want them to be sections of ocean wave, to be pieces of ice on North Pole, to be the floating clouds in the sky, to be the gusts of steam to evaporate ... and to be as free as water ...
