Lot Essay

These three-light candelabra, known as ‘candélabres au griffon’ are after the celebrated model created in 1782 by the bronzier François Rémond (1747-1812). Various examples were supplied by the marchand-mercier Dominique Daguerre and a pair once in the collection of the Princess Kinsky are today at Versailles. The model proved enduringly popular into the 19th century and continued to be produced by, amongst others, Beurdeley.
