Lot Essay

The atelier of Henry Dasson is distinguished by the fine quality of its ormolu. Here Dasson takes inspiration from the celebrated Louis XVI maître Adam Weisweiler and his marchand-mercier, Dominique Daguerre, borrowing the ormolu corner columns, headed by basket bearing caryatids, from the famous table de dame made by Weisweiler for Marie-Antoinette at the Château de Saint-Cloud. Another example of this vitrine, of rare trapezoid shape, sold Christie’s, London, 11 March 2015, lot 197 (£81,700).
