A SANCAI-GLAZED DECORATED TRIPOD TRAY
TANG DYNASTY (618-907)
The dish with shallow rounded sides rising to a flat everted rim is supported on three animal feet, incised and controllably painted on the interior with green, amber and cobalt-blue glazes with a central flowerhead encircled by linked ruyi-heads, all reserved on a cream-glazed ground which extends to the underside and stops in an irregular line exposing the pale buff ware.
