Introduced in the 1960s, the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona was engineered to meet the demands for reliability and precision of professional racing drivers. Named after the celebrated Daytona International Speedway, the chronograph became an undisputable icon and source of fascination throughout the years.
While many references of the Cosmograph Daytona have been manufactured, reference 116500 marked a turning point for the model. Introduced in year 2000, the new chronograph offered several innovations through the appearance of the new 4130 Rolex in-house caliber. The wristwatch was thinner than previous Daytona models and furthermore encountered dial changes. In an effort to improve legibility, both subsidiary registers at 3 and 9 o'clock moved slightly upwards, the constant seconds register moved to 6 o'clock and the size of the hour and minute hand increased.
Crafted with a platinum case and an 'ice blue' dial, the present chronograph is furthermore adorned with a bezel studded with baguette-cut diamonds. Offered here in 'like new' condition, the timepiece still bears its protective plastic stickers and comes with its accessories.
