SPECIALIST NOTES:
LeCoultre introduced the Reverso in 1931 for British military officers in India who played polo. These polo players had complained about mallets hitting the crystals of their watches and breaking them during play. The Reverso was introduced as a sports watch that would prevent that. This watch had a special case that no other watchmaker had created before. The case is able to "reverse" and flip over in order to protect the crystal. These watches soon gained popularity with European royals. Often these watches are found with an engraving of initials or crests on the reverse side, but this one is sterile. This watch was originally intended to be a man's watch, but would be suitable for a man or lady today. The Reverso has become an iconic watch and to own an early example in this condition is quite special.
