Lot Essay

Fruits from 1991 is an expert example of abstract painter Yves Oppenheim. Over the scope of two panels Oppenheim layers and juxtaposes colours in order to create a specific tonal mood. Shapes and patterns rendered in red and yellow with hues of blue, create a dream-like scenery, a restaging of the classical still-life genre which fluctuates on the edge between abstraction and figuration.
