Lot Essay

An identical figure by Fiaschi was commissioned for the Hotel Carrasco in Montevideo, Uruguay. Long considered the 'jewel in the crown' of Montevideo's bustling tourist industry, the hotel hotel opened to huge fanfare in 1921 after beginning construction in 1912. Fiaschi, Cipriani, among others, were among the select group of Italian artists to complete outdoor statuary for the lavish grounds.
