Lot Essay

This gate has been previously known only from period photographs. It is similar in form to a gate designed for John and Isabel Gurney at Sprowston Hall, Norfolk. Soros comments in her monograph that this lot (as depicted in the period photograph) may have been part of the same commission (p. 211).
