A FINELY CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER CIRCULAR BOX AND COVER
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)
The top of the cover is exquisitely carved with a circular panel enclosing an idyllic walled garden scene, depicting a bearded immortal holding a long staff, accompanied by four attendants. He approaches a pavilion where two other immortals await him, surrounded by trees and rocks. Tall peaks emerging from scrolling clouds are visible in the far distance. The sides of the cover and the box are intricately decorated with panels of floral sprays, interspersed with the Eight Buddhist Emblems, bajixiang.
