Lot Essay

This armchair was originally made for the First Class lounge of the RMS Majestic and can be seen in the Brochure issued by White Star Line in 1922 , when they acquired the ship from Hamburg America Line. Originally named SS Bismarck, she was launched in 1914 but not completed until 1922 and at the time was the largest ship in the world , 956 feet long, with nine decks, a capacity for 4100 passengers and a turbine engine capacity of 100,000 maximum horsepower.
