3 parts in 1 volume, 2° (341 x 224mm). General title and 14 part-titles, one with woodcut vignette of the celestial sphere, the others with vignettes of ships, the part-title to the fourth book of the second part from the 1625 edition, 2 volvelles, one of which engraved and mounted, 109 engraved charts numbered 1-108 including 51bis, all but 3 double-page, chart 41 folding, 2 volvelles. (Title with short marginal tear and marginal dampstaining, this latter extending through to a4 of the second part, parts of volvelle on 1.A6 separated but complete, volvelle on 1.C4 defective, chart 10 with tiny hole and 110mm tear but with only minor loss, folding chart 41 defective and with old paper repairs, 2.e3 with 90mm tear due to paper flaw affecting verso with loss to diagram and with contemporary paper repair with letters supplied in ink manuscript in a contemporary hand, chart 85 with small holes due to paper flaws, staining to end.) Old vellum (recased, rubbed with a few splits and small patches of wear to spine). Provenance: Allan Heywood Bright (armorial bookplate).

EXTREMELY RARE ENGLISH EDITION of Blaeu’s Sea Mirrour. At the time of publication, there was no English equivalent of Blaeu’s masterful maritime atlas, and the demand for it was such that it went into three English editions, the present lot being the second edition. Koeman M. Bl 49.
