Lot Essay

It has been suggested that the painter can be identified as the so-called "Drentse Hobbema", Egbert van Drielst (1745-1818). The annotation of Hobbema on the painting likely points to paying homage to the 17th century oeuvre by Meindert Hobbema rather than copying a composition.
