Lot Essay

Cette superbe statue Dogon est à rapprocher du style Bombou-Toro décrit par Hélène Leloup dans son ouvrage de référence Statuaire Dogon (1995, figs.74-97). Caractérisées par une forte stylisation du corps humain, les œuvres de ce corpus présentent des volumes pleins – notamment la poitrine (voir op.cit., fig.92)-, des coiffures élaborées, un visage schématique, des membres supérieurs longilignes tandis que les jambes sont puissantes. Une épaisse patine, recouvrant l’objet, atteste de sa grande ancienneté.
Ce style, très ancien, est caractéristique de la région située au centre de la falaise méridionale.
