Lot Essay

Paganini (1782-1840) toured around Europe between 1829-31 and he gave a concert in Mannheim just after the 12th of December 1829. A report in the Leipzig Komet described Paganini as following; '...There he stands the tall lean figure in an old-fashioned dress-suit, his bow held high, and his right foot panted well in front of his body with its knee bent.', just how Kobell depicted the musician in the present drawing.
