Lot Essay

For a similarly decorated tile with an elephant, see Dr. Pieter Biesboer, Nederlandse Majolica 1550-1650, Amsterdam, 1997, p. 164, no. 194, and p. 163, no. 193 for a border tile with a lion, stylistically similar to the tile with the hound in the present lot.
