tapering étui of rectangular section with slightly domed hinged cover, the cover and base of purple lacquer stamped with gold pellets within chased gold borders, the obverse and reverse later set with a grisaille portrait miniature of a gentleman and a lady, on ivory, by Joseph François Le Roy (French, 1768-1829), one signed Le Roy, within oval chased gold frames, the interior with three ivory-leaved tablets with gold rivet
