TANNER, Henry Schenck (1786-1858). A New American Atlas containing Maps of the Several States of the North American Union. Philadelphia: By the Author, 1823.

Half-title, title with engraved vignette showing the first landing of Columbus in the New World, index, "Geographical Memoir," 22 engraved double-page maps colored by a contemporary hand mounted on guards (the two maps of South America joined, and four maps of North America joined both reinforced with cloth along folds). (Wormed along center fold and margins affecting images, some light staining, some tears.) Contemporary American blue morocco, covers decorated with a blind and gilt tooled border, spine in six compartments gilt lettered in two, others with gilt design (some rubbing and scuff marks.) Provenance: Job Durfee (1790-1847) a politician and lawyer from Rhode Island, member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives (1816-1820) and member of the U.S. House of Representatives (1821-25) (addressed to “Job Durfee, Member of Congress, to the care of Benj. B. Mumford Esq., Newport Rhode Island – To be kept dry” on contemporary shipping crate).
