FIRST EDITION of "[A] clear & concise statement of the constitutional, historical, & economic arguments of the colony against the proposed stamp tax" (DAB ). Fitch was then Governor of Connecticut and chair of the committee which authored this pamphlet in the year of the Sugar Act and in response to the proposed Stamp Act. Despite his objection to these measures here, Fitch eventually sided with the stamp collectors once the Act was put in force, causing much consternation among the colonists.
