A .625 'PATTERN 1800' PERCUSSION BAKER SERVICE RIFLE
THE LOCK SIGNED BARNETT, LONDON, CIRCA 1800-05
Converted from flintlock, with 30 3/8 in. (77 cm.) sighted barrel rifled with seven grooves, converted for use with a socket bayonet, later lock, walnut three-quarter stock, brass mounts, and iron sling mounts, small King's proof marks

Lot Essay

Approximately 2000 Baker rifles were converted for use with socket bayonets in 1815. Whilst the rifle conforms to the Board of Ordnance pattern, the lock is not of military specification and appears to be a working replacement but bears evidence of having been converted from flintlock.
