Heuer Carreras from the 1960s have become an iconic chronograph model due to their clean dial design and architecturally-inspired cases. The flared flat lugs of the Carrera case were completely novel at the time and Carrera watches with the same style of angled lugs remain a cornerstone of TAG Heuer’s product line today.
The present model is among the earliest Carreras to come to market. It comes from the second run of early Carreras, noted by the serial number and the polygonal-shaped case back. It features a number of important early Carrera traits, including not having a “T” above “SWISS” on the dial.
The present watch is powered by the legendary Valjoux 72 movement. It also features an extremely rare silvered tachymeter track, suggesting it was to be marketed to a race car driver. Finding early Carreras with stunning silvered tracks is extremely uncommon. Later Carreras did not possess silvered tracks. The watch is furthermore made exceptional for its original, unpolished condition.
With collector interest in Heuers and Carreras increasing, the present Carrera offers an exceptional opportunity to find an original and stunning early example.
