Lot Essay

Born into a family of artists, Pan Zhenyong (1852-1921) began to paint at a very young age and was already proficient at figure painting at the age of six. After the death of his father, he was forced to work as an apprentice without monetary support from his family, but still continued to paint. Later in his life, Dai Yiheng (1826-1891) took Pan Zhenyong as a student, and Pan gradually improved his figure painting, becoming a well-known artist acclaimed for his woman figure paintings.
