LATE WESTERN-EASTERN HAN DYNASTY, 1ST CENTURY BC-2ND CENTURY AD
The head and wings of the cicada are simply indicated on the rounded top of the body, while the flat underside is plain. The semi-translucent stone has some opaque, ivory-colored alteration.

Lot Essay

The shape and carving of this cicada are similar to that of three included in Illustrated Catalogue of Ancient Jade Artifacts in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, 1982, pp. 148-49, nos. 247, 250 and 252.
