Each box and cover is carved in high relief with an intricate design of a multitude of plum blossoms, buds and leaves, growing on slender branches, with the interiors in black lacquer.

Compare the present examples with a similar red lacquer box and cover, dated to the Qianlong period, sold at Sotheby's Paris, 13 June 2012, lot 24. See, also, another comparable example, dated 18th century, sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 28 November 2006, lot 1695.
