Woodcut device on titles, large woodcut of Ptolemy on recto of second leaf (repeated on verso of fourth leaf) and many woodcut illustrations and diagrams in the text, 65 double-page engraved maps. (Occasional minor worming, some light browning or staining.) Modern vellum; quarter morocco folding case.
Third edition of Ruscelli's Ptolemy, being a reissue of the first of 1561, first edition with Malombra's corrections, and the second issue of the first edition of Moleto's treatise on geographical terms, with detailed material on map making. The 64 maps are the same as those in the preceding edition and in the Latin edition of 1562, and are similarly found with irregular numbering. The important series of maps are enlarged copies of Gastaldi's maps in the edition of 1548, except Universale novo, which was drawn on a new projection and called Orbis descriptio.
