Lot Essay

This remarkable timepiece is an example from 1989, the second year of production of the automatic Daytona as distinguished by the L serial number and early type tachometer bezel calibrated for 200 units per hour. Furthermore, the watch is retailed by Tiffany & Co.: an extremely rare feature for such a dial configuration. As a matter of fact, this example appears to be the only known such watch bearing the Tiffany signature on the dial.. With a 39 mm. case, the present watch is adorned by the so-called "floating" Cosmograph designation - also known as staccata dial: that is, the gap between the fourth and fifth line is wider than the gaps between the other lines, so that the word Cosmograph is "floating" from the rest.
