The Peranakans were early Chinese immigrants who settled in Southeast Asia in the last 19th century and wore jewellery as a way of displaying their wealth and influence. Peranakan women adorned themselves with lavishly crafted yellow gold jewellery while the gemstone of choice was diamonds. Presented in lot 1836 is a typical Peranakan pendant/brooch worn on special occasions.

The openwork pendant/brooch set throughout with old-cut diamonds, the centre designed as a flowerhead flanked by ribbon motifs, suspending a fringe of similarly-cut diamonds with gold chain detail, mounted in gold, 11.3 cm
