A CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER 'DOUBLE LOZENGE' BOX AND COVER
QIANLONG INCISED AND GILT SIX-CHARACTER MARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-1795)
The cover is well carved on the top with two confronting sinuous dragons flanking the square-framed centre with a Shou character within a chrysanthemum framed by four leafy sprigs, all reserved on a dense scrolling clouds ground and framed with a key-fret border. The sides of the box and cover are carved with panels containing various flowering branches alternating with lotus scroll on the corners. All are supported on a waisted stand of conforming shape carved with a hexagonal diaper enclosing florets on the rounded apron raised on six ruyi-head feet. The interior and base are lacquered black.
